The rocks are melted in a furnace
using coke as fuel at approximately 1300 C,and the molten lava is
fiberized by the use of four water cooled spinning wheels.
The fibres are the coated with a
thermosetting binder which, when head cured, bonds the fibres into a
mat. The mat is then cut into suitable sizes of packaging.
Relatively small rigid pieces (eg 1200 x 600mm) are called batts,
larger pieces (eq 5000 x 1200mm) are called blanked.
